There are very few of the original homes and business buildings left in South Brevard. In an effort to increase awareness of these heritage structures, here is a list of all known pre-1900 buildings in South Brevard.
In 1991 Stephen Olausen received a grant to conduct a survey of Historic Buildings in Melbourne. He prepared Master Site File listings for the Florida Department of Historic Resources and published a book Historic Structures of Melbourne. Master Site File listings are available from Tallahassee. The book is hard to find. This inventory is based on information from the Master Site File, the book Historic Structures of Melbourne, and interviews with local historians and interested residents.
Suggestions for buildings that should be added would be appreciated.
Additions, corrections, additional photos, recollections of events or people associated with these buildings are always welcome.
